A newborn baby was found dead in an abandoned house in Xanthi, northern Greece, on Monday morning.
According to state broadcaster ERT, the dead newborn, a boy, was found in an abandoned house near a settlement and authorities discovered it after an anonymous call to local police.
Officers and an ambulance rushed to the spot to recover the body.
The mother was quickly identified and located by the Xanthi Crime Investigation Department. She has been arrested facing charges of exposing a minor to danger.
What the authorities are examining is whether the newborn was born dead and was transported there or if something else happened that led to its death.
Authorities have ordered an autopsy in order to determine the exact causes of the newborn’s death.
