A body was discovered on Monday at Louki Kakoskalas, below the “Zonaria” area on Mount Olympus, during search operations for a 25-year-old Spanish hiker who has been missing in the region since last week.
According to reports, a mountaineering team participating in the operation located the body at around 11:20, in an inaccessible location at a high altitude and immediately informed the relevant authorities.
Firefighters and rescuers have been carrying out an operation to reach and recover the body. Once the operation is completed, identification procedures are expected to follow in order to determine whether the deceased is the missing 25-year-old Spanish hiker.
The young man had allegedly launched a solo mountaineering attempt to climb to the top of Mount Olympus, starting from a shelter in the area.
Concerns arose when the young man did not answer the phone calls of his father, who lives in Spain and immediately informed the authorities.
More than 20 firefighters from the 2nd and 8th EMAK, volunteers, as well as drones, participated in the Search and Rescue operation.
