€ I know I will make up your day with the following post! Then it answers all questions about how Greece went bankrupt and why the country’s debt is on the climbing path. And there is no way out unless radical changes and radical wages cuts take place. There is this state-run enterprise EL.PE. (Greek Petroleum Company) which is unbelievable generous in spending, in salaries and allowances.
According to economic portal Capital.gr - and other media – the list of wages per year for the low level personnel at the EL.PE is as follows:
* Usher – salary plus overtime 52 000 EUR
* Fireman Driver – salary plus overtime 88 000 EUR
* Guardian shift – plus overtime pay 110 000 euros
* Usher – salary plus overtime 67 000 EUR
* Worker – salary plus overtime 55 000 EUR
* Warehouseman – salary plus overtime 78 000 EUR
* Waiters – salary plus overtime 74 000 EUR
And that is not enough! The company is granting 1-0-0 different allowances to the Golden Boys and Girls working there. There is for example the food allowance 200 euro/month although food for personnel at the company’s restaurant is free of charge. The overtime allowances are 12% more than the law allows.
No bad at all is the earning for single workers, then they receive a so called “no marriage” allowance, which is 15% of the monthly salary in case they are unmarried after their 35th birthday!
The ELPE personnel has beneficial working conditions and wages/allowances. They receive salaries for 17,5 months and work 197 days/year, 38 hours/week. The overtime allowances are 12% more than the law allows. The ELPE is a consortium of 9 companies where the Greek state has a 35% stake.
In public administration the average salary is 25,000-35,000 euros.
Moreover, if the low level personnel earns THIS money, I don’t want to know what the managementof the company puts in its pockets every month.
Finance Minister has requested reduction of operating company costs, but the management is not sweating and the employees are going on a 10 days strike, starting on April 3, 2011. The strike is going to disturb the the supply of fuel in the country and thus short before the Eastern holidays.
