Public Survey: 58.9% Greeks Against “Haircut”-Agreement
Posted by keeptalkinggreece in Politics, Society
Greece’s public opinion evaluates negatively the decisions of the EU Summit ol last Thursday believing that the price the Greeks will pay for that will be much too high. The public survey conducted by Kappa Research for TO VIMA newspaper reveals that the majority of the sample survey (58.9%) evaluate negatively the haircut-decisions and the new loan as they believe that the ‘turnover’ paid by the Greeks “will be very expensive and with no guaranteed results”. However, the majority opposed an exit from the euro zone.
Extremely interesting are the results for political parties with the citizens to seek a “government of national salvation”. Citizens reject the political leadership. However they show strong inconsistencies regarding the persons who will represent the new government as they seem to prefer politicians who they consider as ‘not reliable or unfit to govern’ in other parts of the survey.
The two big political parties move at low rates in the preference of citizens, however conservative Nea Dimokratia leads with more than 7% (ruling PASOK comes second). IT looks as if eight parties will enter the parliament should elections occur next Sunday.
At the survey, citizens are asked to answer a very pertinent questions such as: perceptions of the supervision of the EU partners, if they want a referendum before the adoption of the new loan agreement, and what a majority should vote for the agreement at the parliament.
As the detailed survey results are in the printed edition of the newspaper, I will post details most likely tomorrow.

Let’s be honest. 60% against is just not enough. This means the Greeks are divided. You would think 90% would be against this given the non-stop protests going on. Without some 90%, no one will take it seriously, not even your government.
Just curious, Greek pension funds and banks will bear a significant portion of the haircut as well. Do you have some figures? Some people believe Greek pension funds hold 70 billion Euro in Greek government bonds. 50% haircut will be devastating.
No, 60% is not big, Yes, Greeks are divided on the issue, however I don’t have the full data of the survey yet. Furthermore, I realized Greeks (taling baout my relatives, friends) don’t know what is a haircut…
According to Greek data, pension funds have max 25 billion euro in state bonds. so the loss will be some 13bn. I read also in some intern ‘blogs’ of 35 bn-60bn EUR – conspiratologists know better as usual… lol
The banks? I’ll have to check again.
Kalimera!
For this kinda survey first the interviewed needs to have a (home)phone… I bet it goes like this and makes a sweet short-film: Of 5000 get asked the answers will be “mountza” and smashing the phone on the table. Of the 1000 who will answer seriously they don’t let us know how many won’t vote anyway. Build up a non-voters party and you will win the elections.
22% ND and 15% Pasok show the direction of no government:

70 billions banks and 26 billions pensions:

“However, the majority opposed an exit from the euro zone.”
Don’t mean to be detrimental here but are the Greek people on another planet? How can they be protesting about the EUs austerity programmes (on the ORDERS of the EU/IMF the Greek government are impmenting them) yet at the same time Greeks say they want to stay within this undemocratic elitist organisation. I shake my head in despair at the futility of it. Why the Greeks are bothering protesting after reading of the ‘stay in’ poll baffles me. Do they actually think if they bring this government down that another will miracuously make all the debts vanish, NO, they’ll do exactly as those in office now, obey EU edicts. IMHO the Greeks only hope is to default fully and reintroduce the Drachma, which will in time get you back on track, going the EU route will mean ever more tax hikes, on everything and complete subjucation of the population. Greece is being used as an experiment to see whether the Greek people will stand for complete rule by the EU with the EU being the sovereign government before starting down the road of colonising another sovereign nation, and that can only be Ireland or Portugal. And by reading this article the Greek people are going to bend at the knee. My sympathies go to those who realise what the EU are doing. As I said on another thread it’s subtle fascism, domination without a shot being fired.
Exit the EURO and return to Drachma (or any national currency) it will break even more the households given the current economic situation. Therefore.. Greeks vote against euro-exit.
But I think too, it would be the best to start the system new, without the horror of the banks and debt.
It would be a hard way, but it would mean freedom and liberty and self-respect for Greece and Greek people.
Staying in EU, still paying unlogical payments to the banks and high finance mean on going slavery for Greece, IMO. (Besides, This is what I think also for other countries like my home country Germany)
You’ll be no worse off than you are now, and you’ll be out from under the yoke of the EU. Personally I’d rather be poor out of the EU than within. I see on another thread that there’s going to be a referendum on whether to take the new bailout, I tell you now that the propaganda/fearmongering of not accepting it will be up there with Merkel’s contemptable threat of ‘peace not being taken for granted if the euro fails’. Greece has a golden opportunity to be free from the chains of the EU before they sell of all your national assets, islands & heritage, sadly I think the Greeks will vote for their own demise. I can only wish you the best of luck.
I think Greeks won’t go at all to the ballot box, and then we’ll have early elections.

This video may open the eyes that want to stay in the euro zone. It shows the EU are NOT accountable to no one, have given themseves immunity for whatever they do, no government can refuse to carry out their orders under the European Stability Mechanism.
yes, this ESM seems to be the final end of democracy in Europe.
Yes, without a doubt, the aim from the very beginning, there has been nothing but lies, deceit and full on propaganda for decades, now they don’t even bother lying, they’re blatant, they do what they do to the people of Europe with impunity, they don’t bat an eyelid. The ESM takes precedence over all institutions, so if the German Constitutional Court rules something is against the law the ESM can/will just overrule the courts ruling, there is no mechanism where they can be legally held to account, immunity for all bureaucrats, staff & anyone (politicans, civil servants) doing work on behalf of the ESM are immune from prosecution is written into the ESM documents. Henry, what are the thoughts of the ordinary German people on what Markel and the rest of the Brussels Bast**ds are doing, from some reports I’ve read they’re as peed off with the EU as many others are.
Hi Rose,
yes there are some turmoils under the surface in Germany. You all have heard about the occupy movement. May you have heard from the nearly 9 % of the berlin election, which was won by the pirate party.
There are a lot unhappy people here. But all this is still under the surface and not in the main stream.
we will see
So, we are getting a referendum on the Brussels agreement now. 60% against it? And the alternative?
