“Greece’s participation in euro zone was a big mistake.” Instead of baking Easter cookies and paint some eggs, European Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner Olli Rehn made some EU soul searching and came to this thoughtful conclusion. Ten (whole) years after.
“European decision makers need to be cautious and the euro zone strengthened before the area using the euro can be expanded, so as to avoid economic crises in the future, European Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner Olli Rehn said in an interview with a Finnish broadcaster.
“The euro zone’s own ability to act must be much better before it can begin to expand significantly,” Rehn said in an interview published on television channel MTV3’s website on Friday.
The euro zone has been suffering from a sovereign debt crisis since spring 2010 and Greece, Portugal and Ireland have needed bailout packages.
“I am not naming any names or criticising anybody, but the fact that Greece could join the euro zone in 2001 was with hindsight and maybe already then a big mistake,” Rehn said.
He said Latvia, Lithuania and Poland are potential new euro zone members. At present there are 17 euro zone members.” (Reuters)
PS Our EU friends from three countries should be warned, than once inside, hardly potions for outside. And no possibility at all to devalue currency. Just in case…
Rehn: “To bring EZ to proper position, you turn it right…”
It should have been:
“…the fact that Greece could join the euro zone in 2001 was with hindsight not a mistake but a blessing in disguise. For it allowed the exposure of the flawed and fraud Greek political system. But above all, it allowed us to see where the flaws in the ‘Euro-building’ and the political structure of the EU were. And I will name names and criticize anybody who constructed this ‘building’ with such faults. These persons were…”
lol
Haha, I would imagine that the European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs and the Euro has become quite fond of the old proverb; ignorance is a bliss (for obvious reasons).
What planet do these people live on ?
To paraphrase Basil Fawlty: “You’ll have to forgive him. He’s from Finland. It’d be quicker to train an *ape*”
But I am really getting tired of this non-argument. That’s 10 years in the past. And if all the thoughts that have gone into these “They should never have joined in the first place” would have been put into solving the current problems we all would be having a nice Easter this and next week.
unfortunately, failed politicians can’t but use non-arguments. Otherwise they would be successful.
I hope this comment of “AntonisX” will be removed as racist and low as it is in a personal level and to the Finnish people. It has nothing to do with what the discussion is about here. There is no need to insult anyone like that.
