Got the feeling, the world stands still after Boston terror and Iran earthquake

I got this feeling today, the world stands still. The double terror attack in Boston during the historical Marathon on Monday woke up painful memories.  Three people are dead, among them an 8-year-old boy. The injured are more than one hundred… Authorities investigate both external and internal factors.

And then today, another incident brings sorrow to many people: an earthquake with 7.8 R magnitude hit Iran. International media speak of the strongest earthquake that hit Iran in more than half a century. First information speak of 40 dead. The number will possibly increase as fears speak of hundreds to have lost their lives.

Whether man-made or nature-made… much too many victims within twelve hours.

Our thoughts are with them and their families.

  1. Sadly, KTG and Philope, as one American who was interviewed today said, “What, we thought this only happened in Iraq or Israel”. The reality is that the world only pays attention when it happens in the US or UK or other western country. It’s undestandable since this was the first terrorist attack since Sept 11, 2001. We have to give law enforcement kudos for the years of a fairly safe country. Now, for the gun control to work on the crazies though.

Well, on one positive note, and anyone can google it. But the hero of the day was the Greek Doctor at the US Hospital in Boston, Mr. George Velmahos who saved numerous people on the operating table during the last few days. He has been interviewed on several channels in the US on their condition. I thought he looked Greek and googled him and sure enough he trained in Athens and then became one of our best doctors in Boston.

God Bless Mr. Velmahos and his help in this tragedy.

    • Gun control will not work on the “crazies”. The crazies will always find a way to kill. If not with a gun then a knife, box cutter or fire.

The problem is in the society we have turned into; AND the fact we do not remove the crazies from the street and institutionalize them. We have injured veterans coming back from war. There is a 2-3 year backup on their benefit applications. Many are homeless. Nobody cares.

Our country is run by lawyers representing special interest groups (like Monsanto). They bribe the congressmen and “poof” by magic, the “right” laws are passed. No money – No help.

This is the sad, pathetic country we have turned into.

      • As an American, I agree completely with William. Gun control laws will not stop the crazies who seem to be popping up every week. They will find other ways. There were no guns at the Boston Marathon. But it did seem eerily reminiscent of suicide bombers because the backpacks were filled with all sorts of metallic shrapnel. So now what? Pass a law against carrying backpacks? Those determined to inflict harm are quite creative, and will just find another way. It’s a scary world we live in, no matter which country you hail from.

        • Prediction:

This smells home grown to me. Wouldn’t be the first time I’m wrong. But we might know within a day or two.

I was listening to Boston Police, Fire, EMS Internet scanner today. They sounded tired. I’m pretty sure they are working 12 hour shifts with all off days cancelled. It is going to cost Boston a TON of money.

  2. Yes, CT Jodi, just pass a law for us all to take our SOMA and stay indoors and the government will keep us safe. And don’t forget to take your SOMA tonight.
