It was high time that German Chancellor Angela Merkel intervenes in a situation that has gone out of control. Merkel called Monday afternoon Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and invited him to Berlin. He accepted the invitation.
According to state NERIT TV, Merkel’s office called Tsipras’ office in the morning, the two leaders talked directly to each other in the afternoon. Merkel reportedly invited Tsipras with the aim to “hold in-depth talks”.
The official visit will take place on Monday, 23rd March 2015.
PM Alexis Tsipras had often said that he would pay a visit to Berlin once there would be an invitation.
So far, Tsipras and Merkel had a chat of a few seconds at the side of the EU leaders Summit on February 12th.
Relations between Greece and Germany have been recently at lowest possible point with insults and threats being fired from both sides towards all sides.

Merkel is the last person who can turn this trainwreck around. If she utters “Nein” then this will be “The End”. Let’s hope Tsipras finds the right arguments, he (and Greece) will not get another chance.
Will people ever understand that debtors, not creditors, hold all the cards? If Greece doesn’t lose its nerve, it will prevail.
Unfortunately , the chances for Greece to obtain a change of direction from Europartners is ZERO
Therefore the choice is very simple for Greece but also for the other european countries such as Spain, Italy , France etc …
Either they accept the ultraliberal europe as it is , either they exit Eurozone
Exit is the real solution , It will be tough for one or Two years but this is the only way for the future
Have you seen the cartoons on Desertpeace website ?
Great stuff ?
Vladimire Putin has been found, thank goodness, he looks slightly distressed & gasping for breath – all is not well with him.
Tsipras & Merkel seem to be hitting it off.
And all is well with the world.
The CDU, when Kohl was its leader, was found guilty of accepting bribes and fined 21 million DM. His right hand man, Wolfgang Schauble admitted he took cash from the arms dealer Schreiber. Merkel was Kohl’s named successor. This is the historical record of the people Syriza is dealing with and maybe a useful window into their hypocrisy.
One hopes the US diplomat who dropped in to visit, followed by an invite to Berlin adds up to reaching an agreement that is sane.
