Members of the German neo-nazi organization Der Dritte Weg (The Third Way) raised the flag of the #. Reich on Acropolis. The group has been visiting Athens upon an invitation of the Greek extremists Golden Dawn on the occasion of the Imia conflict anniversary, end of January.
According to Greek news website News247.gr, the picture above was posted together with other pictures of their Athens visit on the website of the German organization.
the German neo-nazis apparently spent their days in Athens visiting except the Acropolis also the German military cemetery, the Athens University and the Acropolis Museum.
On January 27th, the group was beaten by a group of Greek antifascists. Twelve members of the German group were enjoying dinner at a tavern in Monastiraki area that is popular among tourists in Athens.
“A group of antifascists wearing hoods spotted the Germans and they attacked them. The two groups brawled with each other. when police came, the antifascists fled leaving behind 5 injured who were taken to the hospital for treatment. Greek police was investigating whether the Germans had links to neo-nazi scene.”
While initially the majority of the Greek media reported of the brawl between “anti-authoritarians and German neo-nazis”, the victims later were turned into “German tourists.”
The flag design above was used in Germany 1933-1935 as the Imperial War Flag.
