Dijsselbloem, EZ officials hint: No Greek Deal will be reached May 24

I don’t know the original source of this statement but Greek media report about it. Eurogroup chief Jeroen Dijsselbloem is said to have said that he “can’t say with certainty that Greek Deal is reached on May 24th.”

Another high-ranking source of the Eurozone has reportedly said that “we haven’t reached the level of agreement yet, but I am confident that we reach a thorough agreement.”

The agreement will include the basic package measures of 5.4 billion euro, together with the IMF’s contingency measures” of 3.6 billion euro as well as a political agreement on the debt relief.

“We work for that. It is difficult but not impossible,” the source said adding that “with regards to debt, expectation is to have a political agreemnt on the measures, their necessity and their roadmap.”

The same source added that “Whatever the conclusion of the Eurogroup, the statement will be similar to the statement of May 9th.”

It looks as if a political agreement among the German-led Eurozone member states on the Greek Debt Relief and the IMF is the key for a solution.

Dijsselbloem allegedly also said that the IMF requires a political deal on Greek debt. Of course, it is the politicians who have to reach a deal, the IMF is focused only on fiscal policies…

Dijsselbloem said also that “technical work is being done on Greek debt. Important to get IMF involved on the program” and stated he was not aware of an IMF proposal on Greece and limited debt service until 2040,  as Dow Jones reported earlier.

According to Deutsche Welle, it is mostly the governments of the Eurozone North who do not want “radical solutions on Debt Relief for internal political reasons.”

Greek sources: here and here.

Via Twitter, I slowly understand that Dijsselbloem made his statements during a speech delivered in Dutch Parliament.

PS me thinkz, it will be very convincing for the EZ members of the north if Greece goes bust and taxpayers in their northern countries will never get their money back. 🙂
