Three dead when migrant boat sinks in the Aegean Sea, many missing

One woman was recovered dead and there are fears that many people have lost their lives when a boat carrying migrants wrecked south of the islet of Kalolimnos, near Kalimnos in the eastern Aegean Sea on Friday.

A huge Search and Rescue operation is underway with four Coast Guard vessels, one Frontex vessel, one super Puma helicopter, two touristic boats and one cargo ship..

According to survivors’ testimonies, there were 22 to 24 people on board.

The rescued have been transferred to the island of Kalymnos.

By the end of the SAR, 14 people were rescued and three bodies were discovered. The rest of the boat passengers may be added on the statistics about migrants’ deaths while trying to reach Europe.
