For whole seventeen years he has been examining patients, diagnosing illness and ailments and prescribing medicine and therapies. He had been appointed to the public General Hospital of Kavala, Northern Greece, in 2001. He was supposed to have been a general practitioner.
Now he has been fired. Authorities found out that he has never obtained a diploma form the Medical University.
It is not clear, what will happen with the salaries he illegally received all these years. Or with the stamps he has collected to be eligible for pension. Or whether he will go to prison for fraud.
Local media learned about the case after the decision for his dismissal was published in the Official Gazette.
UPDATE: Greek television networks reported that the now 66-year-old fake doctor had claimed that he had a Med diploma from a university in Napoli, Italy. Checks revealed that it was fake.
Meanwhile he was promoted to director.
Citing hospital sources, media reported that the fake doctor was a kidney patient and was assigned only to prescription of medication.
