Members of an anti-authoritarian group raided the offices of the German Consulate in Iraklio, Crete. they hanged a banner in solidarity with the city Afrin in Syria currently under heavy attack by the Turkish armed forces. According to local media, the group caused damages in the office which is located on the fourth floor of a multi-story building in the center of the city. Furthermore, they removed the German flag form the balcony and took it with them.
The Consul was not in the city at the time of the raid.

The banner text was written in German and in Greek, reading “Resistance is Life. Solidarity with Afrin”. The group “Solidarity-O” hang also Kurdish flags.
According to local media, the attackers used the Consul’s e-mail account as well as the fax machine of the Consulate and sent messages to the Turkish embassy in Athens and Berlin, to turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the ditib, Turkish-Islamic Union for Religious Affairs, the biggest Islamic organization in Germany.
The Consulate was not guarded.
