Workers at intercity bus service KTEL to launch a 24h strike on Mar 29

Workers at KTEl, the main intercity public transport bus service in Greece, will launch a 24-hour strike on March 29th 2018, in protest of upcoming mass lay offs. The strike will start at 06:00 am on March 29 and end at 06:00 a.m. on March 30.

The strike is the answer to the recent firing of  eight workers in Ioannina among them two unionists who are protected from lay-offs, the KTEL workers union OSME said in a statement.

The union speaks of  general efforts by the employers to get rid of  permanent personnel, a practice that will lead to a “labor jungle with workers of 586 euros,” which is the minimum wage in Greece for new starters.

KTEL is the main intercity public transport bus service in Greece. It is a cooperation of 62 private regional bus companies. KTEL companies provide 80% of all passenger transportation in Greece.
