Group Claims Responsibility for Killing of Greek Journalist

Group “Sect of Revolutionaries” has claimed responsibility for  gunning downinvestigative journalist Sokratis Giolias. SR sent a  seven pages proclamation to newspaper Ta Nea at Tuesday noon after an anonymous phone call.

According to TA NEA online edition,  the SR tries  to justify the killing of  Sokratis Giolias and uses heavy characterizations against prominent Greek journalists and publishers. At the same time the authors of the statement express threats against policemen, prosecutors, and prisons staff. The full text will be published in the newspaper tomorrow

 Sokratis Giolias was murdered outside his home in Athens on July 19. So far police investigation has concluded that the murder was executed by three people, two of them firing 16 bullets on Giolias’ body. Ballistic examination has shown that the same gun was used for the assassination of a police officer. 

The “Sect of Revolutionaries” had threatened to target journalists in a statement sent to the same newspaper in February 2009.
