Athens, Feb 12, 2012: For about 10 minutes, some 10-15 looters try to breach the shutters of a shop selling mobile phones in downtown Athens. Some of the looters wear hoods, some do not. While they are busy with their looting attempt, there is not even a sign of police around. The vandals were caught in action by a security camera.

The video was broadcast by private Mega TV. The reporter says that the group managed to enter the shop. The looters, one by one, went inside the shop and left having taken with them mobile phones and other products.
there has been a lot of criticism against the Greek police for failing to protect property from arson, vandalism and looting. On Monday, the several departments of police threw the ball of responsibility like a ping-pong game. Minister of Citizens’ Protection, Crhistos Papoutsis, said after a meeting with PM Papademos who had invited him for a convincing explanation “Keep Cool”.
Is the general mood in Greece still split between staying in Euro, accept MOU and austerity and default then leave? Either way long term suffering is guaranteed.
the answer is not easy as the case is complicated.
Greek stock markets have surged this year. So at least some people are betting this MOU and bailout, austerity be damned.
The question, does stock ownership represent a large public, or just a small portion of the privileged?
Exactly the way to degradate the justifiable, mostly peaceful protest of 100.000 people. Send looters and fire raisers, extortioner asking for money and tons of plainclothes policeman around? These looters were organized and armed, not just a bunch of poor young men.
