A migrant from Senegal got electrocuted when he jumped into the train track to escape municipality police chasing him. The incident occurred on Friday evening at Thission station of urban train ISAP in downtown Athens.
According to Greek media citing eye-witnesses, the man was an illegal street vendor and the incident occurred in the context of municipality police controls to combat illegal trading. The man allegedly jumped from the bridge into the railway track and he was immediately dead.
A couple of hours later, a group of migrants and members of anti-racism groups gathered outside Thission station sto protest, with riot police to have allegedly used tear gas to disperse the crowd.
The man was 39 years old.
