I would never thought that the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece would care about …shoes. But this is exactly what happened! Because a shoe-manufacturer brought to the market shoes bearing the symbol of the Holy Cross on their soles.
In a statement the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece requests the withdrawal of shoes bearing the sign of the Holy Cross on their soles.
According to the statement, “the use of the shape of the Holy Cross “constitutes desecration, vilification, disrespect and insult of the Redemptive Symbol of our Orthodox Faith.”
The Holy Synod expresses “its discomfort, opposition and repulsion for this sacrilegious action, particularly in respect of the Holy Week and calls for the withdrawal of this type of shoes from the market.”
The shoes are Made in China.
PS I wonder if it’s a cousin of the Chinese manufacturer who printed the nazi-symbols on t-shirts. #Tasteless_Chinese_humor
The lighter measure that can be taken by the church should be calling these shoes off the market…The intention of the factory which stamped the bottom of the shoes with an Orthodox Cross is very clear.
