:Pevolutionary! SYRIZA MP proposes to charge each pupil of public school with €600/year

Trying to find ways to improve the public education system a SYRIZA lawmaker had a fine idea: to impose fees in public schools. MP Alexandros Trantafyllidis was apparently so excited about his own enlightening that he even sat down with pencil and paper and calculated how much he has to charge to each and every pupil of this country: 600 euro fee per pupil per year.

According to the left-wing world of Triantafyllidis, the revenues will be distributed as salary among the teachers who will cover extra hours and the rest of money will be spent to cover expenses for material supplies.

This scheme will provide students with additional tutorials offered by public schools so that they will not seek extra tutoring in private tutorial schools (frontistiria).

As the SYRIZA-MP is a social thinking member of the government, Triantafyllidis explained that the “public school fees will take into consideration the parents’ financial situation but that the average fee will be 600 euro” – more  less.

The :Pevolutionary ideas have been published in the SYRIZA newspaper Avgi and triggered an outrage among the … SYRIZA and not SYRIZA audience.

The MP speaks of a “new versatile and effective public school” that will “enhance the validity of the ambitious education personnel”.

Here is the scheme:

The school program will expand to 40 hours per week (5 days x 8 hours for students) and teachers who will implement it without any increase of their working hours, will have excess earnings wit the assistance of the parents’ association through a process of fair – proportionate charge based on the parents’ tax declaration.

For example, every class of 25 students x €60 per month on average (from €0 for the unemployed/poor families up to €120 for a wealthy family) pays €15,000 per year.

Charge for each student / family is an average payment of  €60 x 10 months = 600 euros per year.

The two teachers who undertake and complete the 40 hours will take the bonus of 600 euros per month each, ie 6,000 euros per year of 10 months. The remaining 3,000 euro will be used for logistics, teaching aids, literature etc.

Everything looks nice when the battle is been carried on paper, right?

Before elected to be member of the Parliament, Triantafyllidis was working as a journalist after he had resigned from a public school where he worked as a teacher.

I suppose in the left-wing ideology, this scheme must be called “participatory public education” or something. This must be chapter of the book “Socialism in a Capitalist society – Greek version.”

PS We have a Greek saying “Τρικυμία εν κρανίω” = Storm in the skull. Our Greek saying has nothing to do with the English “Storm in a teacup.” Our Greek saying means that somebody has a storm in his own brain i.e. hat he is totally confused.

Make a contribution to KeepTalkingGreece‘s crowdfunding campaign and help KTG come through this Greek misery. Thank you!

  1. 9-3.30 was never a good idea – no one can learn in such a lock-down mode – the mind is not a machine – 40 hours a week will provide all day babysitting – a break from the kids for the parents.
Children learn is all manner of environments – home schooling with online programs is becoming more desirable for some parents who are not satisfied that their children be dumbed down by inept teachers, teaching outdated data.
Today we know more than yesterday, however the schol caricula has not yet thrown out the obsolete rubbish of the past. Children have no hope.

    • 8 hours can school can be fine if you adjust the curriculum. My brother went to such a school and until lunch they had regular school subjekt while the time after lunch was for sport and music classes or special projects and assisted/supervised homework. Then again all that costs even more money.
To find this 600€ proposal from a supposed leftist utterly disgusts me though.
Why do politicians of that kind not realize that there is no better investment for a country then into the education of the children and that education shouldnt be dependend on the parents purse.

  2. Cut and abolish it all, in this braindead-brainwashed world nobody needs school anyway, for to ruin your eyes by a screen who will ask you friend or foe, like or dislike, fuck or kill, zero one
