Thessaloniki floods: Shocking videos of woman and delivery boy being swept away

Several people were swept away by the rushing waters that turned streets and roads to angry rivers. The powerful rainstorm that stroke the city of Thessaloniki in Northern Greece on Thursday, not only flooded houses, business and public buildings, it also put  human lives at risk.

In the junction Agios Dimitrios – Lagadas, a delivery boy is being swept away together with his motorbike. The footage was shot by a passenger on a public bus.

Another video shot by a passenger on a private car, shows a woman being swept away by the force of the rushing waters. Ultimately, she manages to grab the door handle of a parked car, calls for help. Passersby rescued her, This incident occurred outside the University of Macedonia.

In another video broadcast by a Greek private TV, a woman is stuck under a car as the waters rush by. A man approaches with difficulty and rescues her from possible death.

Two more people were swept away, an ledlerly woman and a man waiting at a bus stop, The woman managed to find a hold at some ropes and was rescued by the Fire Service. The man was reportedly rescued by passersby.

Local media report of families with small children and elderly people who saw the water flooding their homes their homes.

As there are no reports about missing people, we assume that everybody is safe.

The rain fell mostly in the center of the city and had power and water cut in several areas.

According to weather experts, the volume of rain that normally falls in a month fell in Thessaloniki in this one hour.

BTW: I think it is really criminal when employers send out delivery boys when there are extreme weather phenomena. Also recently when a powerful rain- and thunderstorm hit Athens, I know from first hand that a boss sent a boy out for a delivery although the street outside the facility was an river….
