Defense Minister, Panos Kammenos, called on Justice to persecute Golden Dawn MP Kostantinos Barbarousis for “High Treason” and “preparatory actions to commit high treason.” Speaking at the Plenary of the Parliament right after the unprecedented incident with Golden Dawn MP, Konstantinos Barbarousis, Kammenos urged the Justice to intervene and called on the Parliament to lift the parliamentary immunity of Barbaroussis as well as of the rest of GD MPs who applauded his call for a military coup in Greece.
Kammenos said the GD violated the Articles 134 and 135 of the First Article of the Greek Constitution that refer to high treason and preparatory actions for high treason.”
The Defense Minister and Tsipras’ junior coalition government partner said further he was confident the persecution will proceed also with the initiative of the justice authorities.
Next to the names of Prime Minister, Alexis Tsipras, and President of the Republic, Prokopis Pavlopoulos, Kammenos’ name was also included in Barbarousis call on the Greek Army to arrest the country’s political leadership and stage a military coup.
“Army officers give an oath to Constitution to protect the political system and the Republic, they can not be called upon to overthrow the political system,” Kammenos said adding “I want to assure everyone that the army will in no way respond to such calls.”
Kammenos stressed that Barbarousis violated the Penal Code and the articles referring to “high Treason and preparatory actions for high treason.”Such acts led to the loss of Greek soil.
“I request that criminal proceedings be brought against Barbarousis and against the Golden Dawn MPs and that their parliamentary immunity be lifted immediately,” he underlined.
Stressing that justice will have to proceed with persecution, Panos Kammenos added “we make reference of the request or that GD revokes the committed crime.”
