For one more time, Turkish airplanes conducted dozens of violations of Greek airspace. A total of 39 violations of Flight Information Region Athens took place on a single day, Friday, February 15, 2019.
The airspace violations were conducted by Turkish F-16 and CN-235 spy aircraft.
The F-16 came in two formations and the four jets were armed; also four CN-235 participated in the violations.
The F-16 violated the Greek airspace 23 times, the CN-235 16.
The Turkish aircraft flew over the northeastern, central and southeastern Aegean Sea.
All aircraft were identified and intercepted by Greek fighter jets in accordance with international rules and the established practice.
The airspace violations took place just hours after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reiterated that “Turkey has to protect its rights in the Aegean, Cyprus and the East Mediterranean Sea.”
“If we don’t do it we will face problems in the future,” he added.
A coincidence is also that the violations took place after the Greek and Turkish Defense Ministers held a meeting with warm shaking hands and bright smiles.
PS If I am not wrong Turkey wants to sign a new memorandum of cooperation with Greece. HA!
