Archaeological sites, monuments and museums in Athens begin their operation with extended summer opening hours as of Friday, April 12, 2019. The new summer hours are 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
In other parts of Greece, summer opening hours will start by the end of next week, the Greek Culture Ministry announced on Thursday.
The operation hours extension is made possible due to hiring of new seasonal staff, the ministry said adding that hiring procedures in archaeological sites, museums and monuments will conclude next week.
By Easter (April 28) the Ministry expected to have covered the needs for sites guards by 90 percent.
The summer operational hours are expected to be in force until mid-December, as the temporary work contracts for seasonal staff have been extended to eight months and not seven as in the previous years.
The Ministry added that the tourist season has been prolonged in the last couple of years.
Are you kidding us? All the sites today were closed at 4 p.m.
