Sunshine and high temperatures of up to 38 degrees Celsius in the shade will prevail on Sunday, on the weekend with the first mini heat wave of summer 2019.
According to weather forecast, the highest temperatures are expected in the midday hours in the plain of Thessaly, Central Greece, with 35°-36°C, in the plain of Giannitsa, West Macedonia, with 36°-38° C and Ilia in SW Peloponnese with 36°C.
However, and despite the summer weather, cloudiness, rainfalls and sporadic storms are expected as in the mountainous parts of Central and Eastern Macedonia and Thrace as of early Sunday.

Greek summer winds known as μελτέμι- meltemi – set in in the Aegean Sea with the north winds blowing with intensity of up to 6 and 7 Beaufort.
The fair weather of recent days has an impact on the temperature of the sea surface as, after about two months with particularly low temperatures for the season in the Mediterranean, we see a temperature rise above the average of the past 11 years, at least in the Aegean Sea.
According to , the map below shows the satellite estimation of the sea surface temperature deviation from the average value of the period 2008 – 2018 on Saturday, June 8, 2019.
The greatest positive deviation is observed in the North Aegean Sea (22°-24 ° C), while in the Ionian Sea and the Cretan Sea the water temperature remains slightly lower than the normal values for the season (20°-22ºC). Also south of Rhodes we observe a cold-water area due to the cold water flowing to the surface when powerful northern winds blow between Karpathos and Rhodes.
the mini heat wave over the weekend is of short duration. Meteorologists forecast slight temperature drop and rainy weather with local storms on Monday and Tuesday, June 10-11, 2019.
