With a record of votes, Constantinos Tasoulas, a deputy of conservative New Democracy, was elected Speaker of the Greek Parliament.
He received 283 votes out of 298 present lawmakers and broke the record of Speaker Zoi Konstantopoulou -now former SYRIZA- who was elected with 235 votes in 2015.
The election took place in an atmosphere of broader political consent and Tasoulas received 283 from New Democracy, SYRIZA, KINAL, Greek Solution and MeRA25.
The 15 MPs from the Communist party KKE voted “present.”
Tasoulas is the 13th Speaker of the Greek Parliament.
