Trending in Greece: PM’s wife Mareva rolls out dough, bakes pies

The wife of Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsorakis, Mareva made a top Public Relations appearance over the weekend. A rare appearance showing her with an apron, rolling out dough and baking pies. Accompanying her husband at the International Fair in Thessaloniki, Marave Grabowski-Mitsotakis visited a local agriculture women’s cooperative.

What did she do there? She was interested on how the women from Pontus origin make a special dough for pies.

The Prime Minister’s wife rolled up her sleeves and went to roll out dough. Rolled up her sleeves? Well…

The pictures showed Mareva sitting, with sleeves …unrolled, a huge ring on her finger and no cover for her hair.

Many criticized on social media, that nobody can roll out dough when sitting. Others urged that she had to take her ring off and wear a cap or something otherwise the pies could turn pretty hairy.

After rolling out the dough, Mareva baked the dough sheets in a wooden oven.

The pictures went viral – even though for the wrong reason.

Many mean Greeks wondered why should a successful business woman feature herself like a good, traditional housewife who bakes in the wooden oven in the 21st century.  Others saw a hidden message by conservative New Democracy for the role Greek women should play: irrespective of business successes the woman belongs to the old fashioned kitchen.

Note that 52-year-old and mother of three Mareva Grabowski-Mitsotakis is co-founder of fashion clothes company Zeus + Dione.

An a few criticized that the press office of the Prime Minister has adopted an American-style PR for Mitsotakis and his wife.

Sealed  Mitsotakis’ speech at TIF with a kiss…

PS there are no reports about the pies filling and the taste… Unfinished work, probably.
