Greek air space violations by Turkish aircraft have reached a record high number in the first ten months of 2019. According to Greek General Staff, a total of 3,950 violations in the Aegean Sea have occurred in the time from January 1 until October 29, 2019.
It is the highest number of air space violations since 1985.
The year immediately preceding the violations of 2019 is 2003 with 3,938 incidents.
According to Defense Ministry data, violations by Turkish aircraft reached 3,705 in 2018 and 3,317 in 2017.
It is estimated that for the first time ever, Greek air space violations will exceed 4,000 by the end of the year.
On its National Day, on October 29th, Turkey sent a pair of F-16 fighter jets, two electronic warfare aircraft CN-235 and one unmanned aerial vehicle UAV that violated the Greek air space a total of 18 times.
The F-16s were armed.
