Riot police squads were deployed before dawn to Exarchia district of Athens to evacuate a squat where 138 refugees and migrants were living.
The people, men, women and children, were transferred with buses to the migration office for identification.
Those with legal papers will be transferred to hosting facilities, those without will be deported.
Two persons have been detained but they were not in the squat but on the street and it seems that they complained about the operation, media reported.
The building on Bouboulinas street was evacuated last April and it was re-occupied a few days later. It was sealed but somehow people managed to get inside again whether with the help of the solidarity movement or of human traffickers.
The building belongs to the Culture Ministry.
It must be the 12th squat police has evacuated since August.
