Unprecedented incident in a high school in Messaras Central Crete: a 16-year-old student went to school with a gun in his bag. He reportedly showed the gun to a classmate. Police investigates.
The incident took place short before the morning prayer.
It was a parent who denounced the incident to the school authorities saying that “one student threatened his son with a gun.”
The school principal called the police that in its part called both school students to police station to testify.
As police investigation continues, detailed information about the incident are rather contradicting.
Some media report that the “gun was fake,” others that “it was something resembling a gun.”
According to a news website, the student claimed “it was not a real gun, but an air gun.”
Crete Regional Education Director, Manolis Kartsonakis, told newsit that “by 11 o’ clock Wednesday morning no weapon had been found” following a search in the student’s bag.
Local media reported later, that the gun was found in a place where the student had hidden it.
Police has summoned also the student’s father to the police station.
Later on the day, police arrested the student.
According to police the gun was a replica and was found hidden near the school.
The student is to be charged for violation of the fire arms law
The illegal possession of fire arms is widespread on the island of Crete and is considered as a symbol of “manhood.”
