The decision of the Greek Post (ELTA) to charge a 15-euro fee for parcels of tiny value when they come from China and the USA has angered Greeks and foreigners world wide. Especially those who take advantages of the cheap prices in China and make purchases on online
Now Greeks started a petition with the aim to collect as many signatures as possible and hand them over to those in charge.
The Petition text translated in English reads:
NO to the €15 levy by ELTA
“Customs clearance by ELTA for parcels from China and USA:
The ELTA proceeded with one decision, which overturns a lot of things in e-commerce.
According to a circular issued by the administration, they will now charge 15 euros for the customs clearance of all parcels, especially those coming from China.
This extra charge applies to very small parcels with a value not exceeding 22 euros!
There will be cases where a small parcel worth eight euros will be charged with another 15 for customs clearance cost..
These charges mainly concern parcels from China, and extend to other countries.
In fact, to this day [beginning of February], these parcels came free of charge through the ELTA.
However, from Monday [February 3] onwards all parcels arriving in Greece will be charged with 15 euros. EU Member States are obviously exempt from these charges.

PS thanks to a KTG reader drawing our attention to the petition.
This change protects the Greek local economy. Signing this petition would be short sighted and plain stupid on the longer term.
