Measures against coronavirus in Athens public transport means

Workers and the management of public transport means in Athens have decided a series of measures against the coronavirus. Among them are information spots and disinfection of vehicles.

All screens of urban transport (metro stations, telematics, subway trains, etc.) will display repeated information messages reminding citizens of protection and personal hygiene measures aiming to limit the spreading of the virus.

Athens Mass Transit System (OASA) had will disinfect trains and vehicles on a daily basis focusing on bars and handrails, which passengers regularly touch while it will intensify cleaning measures at stations.

In order to protect public transport workers, OASA is to immediately supply antiseptics (for employee use only) that will be placed in stations, offices, ticket counters and all areas where employees are.

The president of the workers union has demanded immediate measures and the necessary equipment.

Earlier, President of workers union at urban Rail Transport (STASY) Spyros Revythis told newsit that the government has to take immediate action and send necessary sanitation equipment and materials to all public transport means, especially after one of the confirmed cases is in Athens.

He stressed that “although the first confirmed case of a coronary virus in Athens is a fact, the government has not taken care of public safety. We call on the government to take immediate action to safeguard passengers in fixed rail transport means.”
