Six more people die due to COVID-19, death toll at 38

Six people have died in the last 24 hours in Greece, increasing the number of fatalities due to COVID-19 to 38. According to media, among the latest fatalities are four men hospitalized in Sotiria and Attiko in Athens, AHEPA in Thessaloniki and Alexandorupolis, north-eastern Greece and one 86-year-old woman in Sismanoglio in Athens.

All men aged 40, 62, 65 and 71 had underlying health problems.

The youngest victim, the 40-year-old man, died of his underlying health issues, state broadcaster ERT TV reported.

The latest victim late on Sunday was a 76-year-old woman on the island of Lesvos.

According to the local website xanthinea, the victim in Alexandroupolis hospital was an elderly man from Xanthi. He is the third victim in the area after a 90-year-old from Echinos village – currently under quarantine – and a 46-year-old member of the Greek Armed Forces also from a village in the area.

According to the news website, the number of cases in the region of Xanthi is increasing and two more members of the Armed Forces were tested positive on coronavirus.

Some 90 students who returned from Turkey in the last few days are in 14-day isolation in two hotels in Xanthi and Komotini Health teams reportedly arrived from Athens on Sunday in order to test them on coronavirus.

According to official data on COVID-19 released on Saturday evening the total number of cases is at 1,061 since the outbreak in the country on February 26, 2020.
