Greek Post resumes mail services to several foreign countries

The Greek Post has resumed services to several foreign countries and sending of postal items is possible again after weeks of halting operation due to the pandemic. Restrictions on airmail transport worldwide, as a result of the COVID-19 crisis, also have an impact on mail transportation.

Restoring Greece’s postal connection with abroad is the result of coordinated efforts by the Hellenic Post, in cooperation with postal agencies abroad, in order to overcome the air traffic jam and find alternative ways to transfer mail, the Greek Post said in a statement issued on Monday, May 11, 2020.

However, it emphasizes that delivery times of the mail vary from destination to destination and warns of delays.

The statement recalls that many foreign countries have stopped sending postal items to Greece.

The statement stresses that “for the time being, airmail of all types of postal items is temporarily suspended to almost all countries, except those listed in the table below. until a sufficient transport capacity is available.”

The countries currently served are:

Albania, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Northern Macedonia, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, United Kingdom, USA, Japan, Iceland, Italy, Italy, Canada, Qatar, China, Cyprus (only a) priority), Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Norway, South Africa, the Netherlands, Hungary, Ukraine, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Singapore, Sweden, Slovakia, Slovenia.

The statement stressed that “for the time being, airmail of all types of postal items is temporarily suspended to almost all countries, until a sufficient transport capacity is available.

The list of countries will be constantly updated given the ongoing developments.
