Greece’s Civil Protection announced on Wednesday that organized beaches with umbrellas and sunbeds will open again to public as of Saturday, May 16, 2020. And this is a very good decision as a heat wave is with temperature up to 38-40 degrees Celsius over the weekend.
Based on the meteorological forecasts of soaring temperatures up to 40 degrees Celsius, the epidemiological data, but also the suggestion of the competent Committee of Infectious Diseases, it has been decided to open the 515 organized beaches across the country at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, the Civil Protection said in a statement.
However, due to the pandemic a set of rules with regards to social distancing will have to be implemented, whether the organized beaches are enclosed or not, whether .
These rules are:
The maximum number of bathers is 40 people per 1,000 square meters.
Recording the number of visitors at the entrance is mandatory.
The minimum distance between the umbrellas is 4 meters. Minimum distance of 1 meter is necessary between the perimeter of the shadow of two umbrellas.
Up to 2 sunbeds can be per umbrella, with the exception of families with minor children.
The minimum distance between two sunbeds under different umbrellas is set at 1.5 meters.
A towel must be placed on the sunbed under the responsibility of the bather.
Stores such as canteens, refreshments, coffee bars operate exclusively with the disposal of products in a package (take away).
Their products are sold only packaged and it is forbidden to prepare them on the facility.
It is forbidden to sell alcoholic beverages.
Delivery is prohibited.
It is not allowed to set tables and seats in the store.
The minimum distance between customers waiting to be served is set at 1.5 meters.
There is a strong recommendation for the use mask use by employees.
The staff of the organized beaches is obliged to disinfect the sunbeds and chairs after each customer. It is also obliged to regularly disinfect the sanitary facilities and post the relevant program which will be displayed in case of control.
Team sports with physical contact are prohibited.
It is reminded that in order to protect public health, it is necessary to observe the necessary distances on the beaches, to avoid crowding and to observe all the rules of hygiene, the Civil Protection statement stresses.
The ban on swimming was lifted last week. In some free beaches bathers crowded and in others they kept the safety rules.
However, also at the free beaches there are some rules to observe to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
