24 new confirmed coronavirus cases have been recorded in Greece the last 24 hours with four of them to be “imported” cases. That is, passengers who had arrived with flights from abroad and tested at the airport upon arrival in the country, were tested positive.
18 of the new cases were in Xanthi and Echinos, the village placed under quarantine on Thursday morning due to a spike of infections. Another 2 new cases are in Rodopi, northeastern Greece, where one community with 200 people is in lockdown since the last couple of days.
According to the statement of the Greek Health Ministry on Thursday, the number of total infections stands 3,227 and the death toll at 188.
55% of the total infections are men.
Of the total cases, 703 are related to travel abroad and 1,804 were infected by already known cases.
10 patients are intubated in hospitals Intensive Care Units. Their average age is 72, among them are three women. 80% of them have underlying health issues or are over 70 years old.
A total of 117 patients have been discharged from intensive care units.
Among the 188 deceased were 58 women.
Average age of the deceased 76, the overwhelming majority, 95.5% had underlying health problem and/or were over 70 years old.
The latest victim is a 64-year-old woman with underlying health issues. She was a resident of Echinos.
Regarding the young Swedish national who was tested positive in Chania on Wednesday, media report that he has still a serious load of coronavirus although he was infected more than a month ago.
