Coronavirus Greece: 16 new cases, total 3302; no new deaths

Greece’s health authorities announced 16 new confirmed coronavirus cases on Tuesday raising the number of total infections to 3,302 in the last 24 hours.  No new death has been recorded since Saturday.

New Cases – Geographical distribution

8 of the new cases have been detected in Xanthi Prefecture: 5 in Myki Municipality currently under soft lockdown and 3 in Xanthi municipality.

2 of the new cases are in Athens and another 2 in Paramythia, Thesporitia, where another 12 cases have been detected since the weekend. Tests of some 30-35 samples from the area are expected in the next hours.

1 case is in Rodopi, northeastern Greece, and 1 in Edessa, western Macedonia.

3 cases have been detected in arrivals from abroad. 2 Greeks arriving through the Promachonas border crossing with Bulgaria and 1 case on flight.

According to the Health Ministry statement on Tuesday, of the total 3,302 cases, 728 are related to travel abroad, 1,844 are related to an already known case. The rest are not related to travel or another known case or are still under investigation.

8 patients are intubated in hospitals Intensive Care Units. Their average age is 69, among them is 1 woman. 75% of the patients have underlying health issues or are over 70 years old.

118 patients have been discharged from the ICUs since the beginning of the outbreak.

Number of coronavirus -related deaths remains since Saturday at 190.

Among the deceased were 60 women (31.6%).

The average age of the deceased was 76, the overwhelming majority (100%) had underlying health issues and/or were over 70 years old.

A total of 291,187 test have been conducted since beginning of the year.
