8 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, total 3310; deaths rise to 191

Greece’s health authorities announced 8 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Wednesday evening raising the number of total infections to 3,310 in the last 24 hours. Two of the new cases refer to tourists arriving to the country from abroad.

Short after the daily briefing by the Health Ministry, one more COVID-19 patient passed away. The 64-year-old woman was hospitalized in Komotini, Thrace, northeastern Greece, and had underlying health issues.

The woman’s death raised the death toll to 191, since the outbreak in late February.

New Cases – Geographical distribution

3 of the new COVID-19 cases have been detected in Rodopi Prefecture, northeastern Greece.

1 new cases is in Attica, Messinia (Peloponnese), 1 in Alexandroupolis (NE Greece).

2 cases have been detected in arrivals through the Promachonas border crossing with Bulgaria. One of them refereed to a Bulgarian national and one to an Albanian national.

According to the Health Ministry statement on Tuesday, of the total 3,310 cases, 730 are related to travel abroad, 1,848 are related to an already known case. The rest are not related to travel or another known case or are still under investigation.

8 patients remain intubated in hospitals Intensive Care Units. Their average age is 69, among them is 1 woman. 75% of the patients have underlying health issues or are over 70 years old.

118 patients have been discharged from the ICUs since the beginning of the outbreak.

Number of coronavirus -related deaths remains since Saturday at 190.

Among the deceased were 60 women (31.6%).

The average age of the deceased was 76, the overwhelming majority (100%) had underlying health issues and/or were over 70 years old.

Over 295,600 tests have been conducted since beginning of the year.
