Greek Police raids two solidarity squats in Exarchia

Strong forces of the Greek riot police raided two squats in Exarchia district of Athens on Friday morning. Nobody was inside the squats at the time of the police operation and therefore no detentions were made.

According to police, helmets, fire extinguishers, gas-masks, sticks and other items were found inside the two occupied apartment buildings on Dervenion Street 52 and 56..

Police said that they found helmets, fire extinguishers, αντιγασ μασκσ and sticks. The area has been cordoned off.

According to media, the squat on Nr 56 has been operating since 2015 when a self-organized solidarity campaign was launched for the refugees on Lesvos, the Victoria Square in Athens and Idomeni in northern Greece.

Apparently the squat members were waiting for the upcoming police operation and had posted a text ahead of it, media report.
