Anarchists throw water and coffee at Mayor of Athens

A group of some twenty people verbally attacked the Mayor of Athens, Costas Bakoyannis on Sunday afternoon and hurled coffee and water at him.

Bakoyannis was attending an event at the church of Petros and Pavlos in Metaxourgeio district of the Greek capital and chatted with local residents. He left right after the attack.

The attackers immediately fled the are, while local residents were disapproving the action, media report.

However, police detained five of them and turned detention into arrest for two on Monday morning.

According to posts on social media, the attackers were anarchists disapproving Bakoyannis’ policy to empty squats in the center of Athens.
