110 new coronavirus cases in Greece: Highest score in last 3 months

Highest score in the last 3 months in Greece: Health authorities announced 110 new confirmed coronavirus cases on Saturday evening that increased the total infections to 4,587. Only 12 of the new cases have been detected among tourists. Dozens of the new infections are related to the wedding party in Thessaloniki and a meat procession factory in Kavala, both in northern Greece.

No new death in the last 24 hours.

However, the spread of the coronavirus is located in several regional units, mostly on the mainland meaning that it is getting more and more difficult for authorities to contain the virus spread, as health experts warn.

The constant surge of cases surge since July 21, forced the Greek government to impose new restrictions and make the use of mask mandatory in all enclosed spaces, including churches, and strongly recommend the mask use outdoors.

The following two charts are based on data before Saturday’s data with 110 new cases

 

Epidemiology professor, Athina Linou, described the number of new cases as “specially worrying because the spread of the virus across the country is difficult to control.” Speaking to Alpha TV on Saturday, Linou appealed at young people to take social responsibility and follow the instructions for social distancing.

Geographical distribution August 1

The new 110 new cases on Saturday have been detected:

9  at the entry points in Greece.

3 more travellers voluntarily sought laboratories for Covid-19 test in the country after they developed some symptoms. They were tested positive.

The remaining new cases are spread across several regional units. These cases are:

37 in Thessaloniki – 10 of them are related to the wedding party in the city a week ago.

23 in Kavala – all are related to the meat procession factory in the city.

19 in Attica

6 in Magnisia – 5 of them are related to a bar in Volos

Each 3 cases on Corfu and in Halkidiki

2 in Pieria

Each one (1) is Corinth, in Larissa, in Pella, in Achaia and Viotia.

Media reported earlier today that the confirmed cases from the wedding party in Thessaloniki had increased to 21, Note that the official statement is based on data until 3:00 p.m. each day. It seems that patient zero was somebody who had traveled from Athens to the wedding.

Among the new cases is one player of the National Polo Team, and one pregnant woman from Veria. She was transferred to a hospital in Thessaloniki where she was expected to go in labor today.

According to the Health Ministry statement on Saturday, the daily growth from Friday to Saturday is 2.5%

54.8% of the total of infections affect men.

Of the total coronavirus cases, 1,280 (27.9%)  are related to travel abroad, 2,252 (49.1%) are related to an already known case. The rest are cases not related to travel or another known case or are still under investigation.

Average age of the infected in 49 with age range between 0 and 102.

The rolling average number of infections in the last 7 days is 61 from 28 last Saturday, July 25.

Number of patients intubated in ICUs increased to 10 from 9 on Friday. Among them are two women. Average age of the intubated patients is 58.

60% of intubated patients had underlying health issues and age over 70 years.

128 patients have been discharged from the ICUs since the beginning of the outbreak.

Number of coronavirus-related deaths increased to 206.

Among the deceased were 66 women. The average age of the deceased was 76 with range age between 35 and 102.

96% had underlying health issues and/or were over 70 years old.

Tests

Total tests since the beginning of the outbreak in February is 539,493.

Tests in the last 24 hours: 9,638. Positive 1.14%
