Turkey announces new drilling licenses in plots very close to Greek islands

Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu announced on Tuesday that Ankara will issue new license for drilling in the “western part of its continental shelf in the Eastern Mediterranean region, the country’s foreign minister said on Tuesday.

According to Turkish media, Cavusoglu said “the Turkish administration demonstrated its goodwill in the region where tension has been high following the discovery of energy resources, by making “temporary” gestures in line with the demands of Germany and some other European countries.”

“However, Ankara’s gestures were not reciprocated by the Greek administration and Greek Cypriots,” the top diplomat claimed adding that Turkey reactivated its drilling vessels in response.

“We will defend rights of Turkey and Turkish Cypriots in the Eastern Mediterranean, and not make any concessions,” Cavusoglu said, adding seismic and drilling activities will be conducted this month.

Cavusoglu’s statement comes amid tensions with NATO-partner Greece and just hours after a senior official at the Foreign Ministry in Ankara posted a distorted map showing, among others, also maritime plots to be licensed.

The plots claimed by Ankara are dangerously close to the Greek islands of Kastellorizo, Rhodes, Karphathos and Crete, do not even allow territorial waters of 6 nautical miles to the Greek islands.

With its continuous expansion provocations Turkey aims to create a fait accompli – an irreversible and unilateral change of policy – in the East Mediterranean Sea and force Greece to negotiate on a basis of blackmail and new realities.

  1. The can announce whatever they like but that does not make it true, these guys are the pinnacle of deception and deceit.

Let them try to see how Greece defends its sovereignty as they tries at the border using human shields as cowardly as they use paid Syrian mercenaries in Libya where the smuggle arms against an embargo and French NATO partner.

Turkey needs to be taken out and the sooner the better.

    • Why don’t grrece tries to take out Turkey alone? lets see what will happen? you will go to other countries to ask help like a cowards. Two countries had a 12 war in the history and all of them won by Turkey:)

    • Greeks have historically lived along the coastline of Asia minor .

The modern Greek DNA has been proven to have connection to antiquity in American studies . The so -called modern Northern Macedonians are closer in DNA and language to Bulgarians than anything else.

Greeks are NOT history thieves rather the Turks are claiming to be indigenous to Anatolia and the Caucasus when in fact they came from Central Asia in progressive migrations and did not enter in to Anatolia until between the 9th to 11 century CE -this IS History theft.

My maternal ancestors came from Kasos which is the little island next to Kastelorizon … historically Hellenic land .

Leave the Aegean islands and Crete and FREE Cyprus alone .

The Turks of Asia are more Asian in their DNA the Turks of Anatolia are Eurasian in their DNA…

It is you who have stolen historically speaking and now you wish to repeat the past almost 900 years of rape and slaughter and slavery of the the Seljuks and Osmanlis [Ottomans ]…
