Dramatic daily record: Five patients infected with Covid-19 have died in Greece within a few hours on Thursday. They were aged 70 to 91.
All victims were hospitalized in northern Greece.
Two of the elderly aged 88 and 91 were transferred from the nursing home in Asvestochori to hospitals in Thessaloniki a day earlier. Infections in the nursing home rose to 45 today, after six more people were tested positive. Some 14 elderly have been transferred to hospitals following the outbreak in the facility with vulnerable people. The country’s top epidemiologist Sotiris Tsiodras said that elderly and staff were contaminated by an employee who was in close contact with somebody who had previously attended a live music event at a beach bar in Halkidiki.
The three other fatalities are all men.
A 70-year-old died in the hospital in Katerini, an 82-year-old in a hospital in Thessaloniki and an 87-year-old in a hospital in Halkidiki.
Greece had such high numbers in daily deaths during the peak of the pandemic in March and April.
There has been a constant increase of new Covid-19 cases since beginning of August. All time record was on Wednesday with 262 new cases. The total infections surpassed 6,000.
