Greece’s health authorities announced 217 new confirmed coronavirus cases and 3 more deaths on Wednesday evening. The total number of infections has reached 7,684 and the death toll 235.
A total of 19 Covid-19 patients have died in one week, August 12-19. Among the 3 fatalities in the last 24 hours is one elderly form the nursing home in Asvestochori, Thessaloniki.
The majority of the new cases are again local residents, while 22 were detected among travelers.
Greek Civil Protection decided to impose additional restrictions on the island of Mykonos and Halkidiki peninsula, northern Greece, due to increased number of infections.
Head of Greek Civil Protection said on Tuesday that tourism was not to blame for the infections increase.

Of the total 7,684 cases recorded in Greece since the outbreak in late February 1,765 (23%) are related to travel abroad and 3,585 (46.7%) are related to already known case.
According to the official daily bulletin on Wednesday, the number of intubated patients in ICUs increased to 28 (from 25 on Tuesday. Their average age is 68, among them are 8 women. 42.9% have underlying health problems or are aged over 70.
140 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.
Three more deaths in the last 24 hours increased the fatalities to 235. Of these, 82 were women. Their average age was 77 and 95.6% of the deceased had an underlying condition.

As for the number of tests, here has been an integration of several thousands of tests from laboratories and the number given is 63,411. Total tests since begin of outbreak is 894,282 with 6,371 (1.04%) being positive. These data includes several tests carried out in one patient as well.
The daily growth is at 2.9%.

Of the 217 new coronavirus cases, 195 are domestic and of them 19 are linked to recent travel within the country.
16 of them were detected at entry points and another 6 travellers sought laboratories after they developed symptoms.
