Greece Civil Protection is warning of a very high risk of wildfires or forest fires on Friday, September 4, 2020. Nine regional units are under the high risk, among them is the Attica Prefecture. In fact, the Civil Protection alerted via emergency number <112> the residents of Attica on Thursday afternoon of the upcoming risk.
Then, within minutes a 4.4 R earthquake occurred 29 km North-East of Athens, that is in a world that is getting more and more surreal.
Anyway, as nobody can demand from the Civil Protection to predict and warn of earthquakes, here is its wildfires warning.
The regions at very high risk – Category 4 -are:
- Attica, Evia, Viotia,
- Ionian islands: Corfu, Kefalonia, Zakynthos
- Achaia, Ilia, Messinia,
- Magnisia, Sporades,
- Thessaloniki, Halkidiki
- Chios, Samos, Ikaria
- Rhodes.
Head of Civil Protection Nikos Hardalias said that Sept 4th is the most dangerous day of this summer regarding wildfires.

PS Never mind Sept is in autumn. We always think summer ends when temperatures fall below 28 degrees Celsius. Currently over 35 C.
