Greece rejects Turkey’s claims, delegations at NATO started dialogue

Greece’s diplomatic sources on Thursday rejected Turkey’s claims that the military delegations at the NATO “exchanged views” in the context on technical discussions.

Diplomatic sources rejected what they called information distributed by Turkey about an ‘exchange of views’ in the context of ‘technical discussions’ at NATO level.

The sources said that a Greek officer went to the office of the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee to submit Greece’s comments on the NATO Secretary-General’s proposals on a possible de-escalation mechanism.

The Chairman of the Military Committee asked the Greek officer for a series of clarifications on the submitted comments.

Sources noted that there was no dialogue with the Turkish officer.

In addition, sources elaborated that references to ‘exchanges of views’ in the context of ‘technical discussions’ are part of Turkey’s ongoing effort to present an unrealistic picture, in order to avoid potential sanctions over its illegal actions.

And why Turkey claimed “dialogue” on Thursday evening? Because the leaders of 7 European countries signed the Declaration of Ajaccio in Corsica in which among others threatened to support sanctions against Turkey at the EU Summit at the end of the month, if Ankara does not engage in a dialogue with Cyprus and Greece.
