Coronavirus cases in Greece surpass 14000; three more deaths

Coronavirus infections surpassed 14,000 cases in Greece on Wednesday. Health authorities announced 312 new cases and 3 more deaths in the last 24 hours. Total infections have reached 14,041 and death toll 316.

28 of the new cases were detected among tourists and 27 are related to known clusters.

At the same time, intubations dramatically increased from 59 on Monday to 67 in the past 24 hours; they were 43 last Tuesday.

Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias said that there are a total of 229 ICU beds exclusively for patients of Covid-19. 223 of there are in public hospitals and 6 in military hospitals.

From the 229 across the country, 86 are occupied, capacity used at 37.5%.

He announced that 40 more Covid-19 beds in ICUs are to be added in Attica in the next 7 days due to increased needs.

At the live briefing on Tuesday, head of Civil Protection Nikos Hardalias said that there are currently 4,088 active cases across the country.

According to the official daily bulletin on  Wednesday,  2462(17.5%) of the total cases are related to travel abroad and 5972(42.5%) are related to already known infection case.

55.5% of the infected are men.

The number of intubated patients in ICUs remains 67. Their average age is 70, among them are 20 women. 88.1% have underlying health problems or are aged over 70.

176 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.

Three more deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 316.  Of the deceased 118 were women. The average age of the deceased was 78 and 96.6% of the deceased had an underlying condition or/and was over 70 years old.

Rolling weekly average cases at 282 (record!) from 192 last week.

Total tests since begin of outbreak are 1,157,897

Tests in the last 24 hours: 13,348 with 2.34% of them positive.

Of the 312 new coronavirus cases, 27 are related to known clusters (factories) and 22 were detected at the country’s entry points.

22 of the new cases were detected at entry points; another 6 travelers already in the country sought laboratories after they developed symptoms.

26 Thessaloniki

11 Pella, 10 Pieria,

14 under investigation

Each 7 in Heraklio, in Lesvos (all among Moria refugees)

4 in Trikala

Each 3 in Corinth, Kozani, Corfu, Drama

Each 2 in Fthitida, Kastoria, Imathia, Evia

Each 1 in Florina, Rethymno, Messinia, Larissa, Kos, Kilkis, Karditsa, Ioannina, Evros, Viotia, Achaia

Six schools in several regions including Attica were closed due to coronavirus cases among teaching personnel and students.

The refugees camps on the islands of Samos, Kos and Leros were placed in quarantine due to confirmed infection cases.
