Shocking numbers in Greece: 9 deaths and 359 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours with 60% of the new cases to have been detected in Attica.
Total infections reached 14,400 and death toll 325.
Among the latest fatalities is a 99-year-old woman from the cluster in the nursing home in Asvestochori by Thessaloniki, northern Greece.
37 of the new cases have been detected among tourists and 21 are linked to known clusters.
Attica broke a daily record with 212 new cases. Health experts and media speak of a high possibility for a new lockdown in the region that is home to some 5 million people.However, it is expected that it will not be eaxtly the same as the one in spring.
Some experts hint that the lockdown may be imposed for a week or so, but before this authorities were waiting for the tighter restrictions in force since Wednesday, Sept 16, to show if they are effective.
A day earlier, it was the government spokesman who did not rule out a new lockdown

According to the official daily bulletin on Thursday, 2500(17.4%) of the total cases are related to travel abroad and 6070(42.2%) are related to already known infection case.
55.6% of the infected are men.
The number of intubated patients in ICUs increased to 69. Their average age is 70, among them are 21 women. 87% have underlying health problems or are aged over 70.
Note that the majority of Covid-19 patients who die are usually also intubated. Therefore the number of intubations increase daily and in number higher than they seem.
178 people have been discharged from ICUs since the start of the pandemic in Greece.
Nine more deaths in the last 24 hours increased death toll to 325. Of the deceased 121 were women. The average age of the deceased was 78 and 96.6% of the deceased had an underlying condition or/and was over 70 years old.
If I remember correctly, last time 9 Covid-19 patients died in 24 hours hours was in April at the peak of the pandemic.
Rolling weekly average cases at 280 from 192 last week.
Total tests since begin of outbreak are 1,170,292
Tests in the last 24 hours: 12,395 with 2.9% of them positive.
Daily growth at +2.6%.

Of the 359 new coronavirus cases, 21 are related to known clusters and 37 were detected at the country’s entry points.
36 of the new cases were detected at entry points; another 1 traveler already in the country sought laboratories after they developed symptoms.

More classes in schools in several regions including Attica were closed due to new cases among teachers ( mostly), as well as students.
One riot policeman deployed to Lesvos was reportedly tested positive.
The first test of a 6-month-old baby was positive but the second negative. The infant is being closely monitored, a third test is due.
