The active cases are estimated to be 20,000, Majiorkinis said, apparently referring to ‘unconfirmed cases.”

Live Briefing

Head of Civil Protection Nikos Hardalias said that the country experiences a “big pressure.” He spoke of a “stability in the number of cases” even though they surpassed 500 on Friday, striking an all times negative record since the outbreak in Greece in late February.

Hardalias warned residents in the Regional Unit of Ioannina, Epirus, that “they would be next with a lockdown like in Kozani.”

Both Majiorkinis and Hardalias stressed that “Greece is in better situation than other European countries.” However, the comparision could not clam down social media user who now lash out at “governmental failure policies” including the opening of borders in the summer, practically without the necessary precautions.

Lockdown in Kozani

Health authorities and the Civil Protection placed the Regional Unit of Kozani in lockdown, the first in the second wave of the pandemic in Greece. The lockdown went in force on October 16 and is valid until October 29, 2020. More details about the measures during the lockdown in Kozani here.
