Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed his belief that Greece will be one of the countries that will emerge victorious from the reorganization caused by the pandemic in the world economy. “I am sure the recovery will be very strong as soon as we have the vaccine,” Mitsotakis said during a discussion with CNN journalist John Defterios at the 5th EU-Arab World Summit.
” In Greece, savings are increasing, which means that people will want to spend when the pandemic is over,” the Prime Minister said.
He added that “businesses will want to invest. And smart companies are already investing. They know that this pandemic will end, that Greece has a reliable government and they know the opportunities in Greece.”
The Prime Minister pointed out that Greece is a proven safe country, located “at the crossroads of three continents”, with modern telecommunications infrastructure and has a government that is “proponent of entrepreneurship and reform-oriented.”
Investors “know the opportunities in Greece”, he stressed. “The coronavirus pandemic will have winners and some who will lose. I’m convinced of that. And I am sure that Greece will be on the side of the winners “.
The Prime Minister noted that smart investors are already being placed and taking advantage of opportunities offered by our country even during the crisis, with the investment interest now exceeding the sectors where Greece is a fixed value.
“I do not refer only to the investment interest in the traditional sectors, for the hotel sector and tourism. There we see great interest from Abu Dhabi, with the Abu Dhabi Capital Group investing in fish farming, state-of-the-art food technology. Microsoft announced a huge investment, with the creation of three large data centers in Greece. A few days ago, Volkswagen signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Greek government with the aim of transforming a Greek island into a model island of smart mobility. “We are talking about issues of advanced technology, issues of green transformation, areas where we believe that Greece should be a pioneer,” he said.
He added that our country could be turned into a financial center of the wider region.
“In the post-Brexit era, interest has been expressed by financial institutions to establish a presence in our country. We offer them enough incentives to be able to do so. Greece should also be transformed into a financial hub for the wider region. I would like to emphasize something that is very important: Greece is a safe, connected and geographically attractive country, due to our location “, Mitsotakis stressed
He underlined that the pandemic creates opportunities at European level as well. The EU now “borrows as a supranational entity to strengthen the Member States,” he said, while the Community recovery fund will assist in a “very strong” recovery, which will be accompanied by investment and increased consumption after the coronavirus is treated medically.
In the meantime, he noted, the government has backed large numbers of workers and entrepreneurs, while the “great credibility” it enjoys in international markets has allowed it to build a liquidity reserve with very low interest rates.
On the side note and the ‘modern telecommunications infrastructure’ collapsed on Monday when over half a million students and another 100,000 teachers connected at the same time with a platform of the Education Ministry for e-learning due to the lockdown. The minister in digital governance has urged Greeks to not hang out on internet during the peak hours to avoid disturbance of e-education and tele-working.
PS Our Greek PM must be over-optimism by birth or a escapist of a kind and to have a permanent divorce with the real world to describe with the brightest colors the pandemic with thousands of deaths as an “opportunity offered” both to Greece and Europe.
I remember that some government minister – I’m 99.9% sure it was the Tourism Minister – who claimed at the beginning of the pandemic in last winter that it was “an opportunity for Greece’s tourism.”
In this “opportunist”-mentality, we could have a pandemic every few years, right? *rolling eyes*

> with modern telecommunications infrastructure and
LOL
” In Greece, savings are increasing, which means that people will want to spend when the pandemic is over,” the Prime Minister said.
Not for the normal people!!!!
Politicians, banksters and economists always see a disaster as an opportunity: to steal more from the population.
