The tram service from and to Syntagma Squarein downtown Athens will resume its operation on Friday, November 20, 2020, the management company STASY said in a statement. The service has been suspended since October 2018 due to deformation of the concrete covering the bed of Ilissos river
The resumption of the tram service at Syntagma is expected to significantly contribute to the decongestion of other means of public transport.
According to the statement, in September the STASY installed a special system for measuring the deformations of the concrete that covers the underground bed of Ilissos and carried out careful inspections in the closed part of the Tram route, between the stops “Kasomouli” and “Vouliagmenis Avenue.”.
“Measurements and tests during the last two months showed that there was no deformation in the cover plate of Ilissos from the tram crossings, thus allowing us to safely render to the passenger public of Attica the section Syntagma – Kasomouli, as well as the intermediate stops in Zappeion, Vouliagmeni Avenue and Fix,” STASY said..
During the full operation of the tram, the measurements will continue for another four months.
At the same time, the resumption of tram services is accelerated in the section from the “Batis” in Plaio Faliro to the Peace and Friendship Stadium, which were interrupted in March 2020, in order for the Attica Region to carry out the works for the reconstruction of the coastal front, in the framework of which the relocation of the Tram line is foreseen. These projects are expected to be completed by the end of November, the statement said.
