PPC cuts power supply to single-parent family with 3 kids amid the pandemic

While citizens are being tested in the most severe way due to the economic impact of the pandemic, power cuts continue leaving low-income families without light, heating and even education.

Due to debts to the Public Power Company PPC, a single-parent family with three children was left in the darkness and in cold.

The case was made known by the Parents and Guardians Association of the 91st elementary school in Athens with a post on social media.

Next to the hardship at home, also the children are deprived of education as due to the extended lockdown only distance learning is possible. Note the students who do not attend the e-classes not matter what the reason are marked as “absent” and could miss the school year.

The Association has called its members to help the family.

Furthermore, they call on the government to ban power cuts due to debts in the midst of the pandemic that has created dramatic economic conditions.

Note that many people have to come through with some 500 euros state aid since last March.

Two weeks ago, in a village in Rodopi, north-eastern Greece, a father begged the PPC guy to “cut electricity an hour later because his child was attending the e-class.”

Deeply touched from the drama, the PPC employee posted the incident on social media, saying that he was “ashamed.”
